Beautifully designed handmade leather backpack.  The design of this large leather backpack was purposeful and thoughtful.  With the traveler in mind, there are an abundance of outside pockets to hold all your travel documents, phone, passport and other ‘immediate need’ items you have to have when you’re on the go.  This leather backpack is hand tanned and hand tooled, with hand stitched seams.  Saddle stitching, hand stitching and machine stitching all went into the creation of this thoughtfully designed large brown leather backpack!

This bag is made from cow and sheep skin.  As you use this bag, it will darken and soften from the oils of your skin and the elements.  This bag reminds me of the “old doctors bags” from the turn of the last century, and this leather backpack will be around for the turn of the next one!

The Story:  The leather tanning Mom of this family came to my shop to with some basic leather work, which I loved.  A few months later she returned with her kids who had completely reworked their designs.  As you can see, the kids brought a fresh perspective and a utility and beauty in design that is distinctly theirs.   They love the art of leather work, and we can work together to create custom designs to suit your specific needs.

There is only one leather tanner in Belize and she learned the craft from her father who owned the famous “Western Leather”.   The leather is tanned “the old fashioned way” with using only tree bark and water. They are located on the mainland of Belize near Belmopan, the capital of Belize.  They started out making saddles, belts and other equestrian needs and have recently expanded to fashion design.
